JUNIORS TENNIS

Junior Co-ordinator:-      Gwen Barrett             tel: 0118 9340933        e-mailgwenbarrett@talk21.com

Juniors are assessed at the start of each term and placed in ability groups.  They are encouraged to learn all the basic skills and tactics of tennis through the LTA licensed coaches.  Groups start with complete beginners and progress through transition standard and to match play.

On Monday evenings, except school holidays and mid-winter, there is a Junior Club Session (member only) for all levels, with a tuck shop. LTA registered coaches attend for 29 weeks of the year, offering free coaching and organisation.  This provides a fantastic opportunity for youngsters to improve their tennis and to meet new friends

There are Juniors (age 8–18) and Mini Tennis (age 4–7).   Both groups have unlimited use of the courts when available.  An ideal time is straight after school from 3.00 – 6.00 and during the day in the school holidays.

Juniors interested in representing the Club should contact:
Paul Arnott (07949 175176) for Boys Teams
Gwen Barrett (0118 9340933) for Girls Teams.

 Summer & Half Term Camps

It is a great way for players under 10 to take their first steps in tennis and children as young as three and four can start in mini tennis tots classes.  You will play and compete with different balls and rackets on different sized courts depending on how old you are. This will help you have longer rallies, attack and defend, approach the net, use drop shots and develop an all-round game…in fact it’s just like the real thing!

Children up to eight will start in red groups, while nine-year-old beginners are better to start in orange. A ten-year-old beginner would benefit from starting in orange although they might feel happier in green with children of their own age.

The coach will be able to advise you where you will fit in best.   Mini tennis ratings will help young players between the ages of four and ten get the most out of their competitive tennis. The ratings are designed to reward players for competing, inspire them to develop their game and give them the opportunity to compete more regularly and to be the best they can be.
